Science cafe is a venue for a cup of coffee or soft drink where people can debate science issues in a non-academic environment. It is a forum for people to get insights into questions they may otherwise not consider, and to share their ideas about the latest or the most burning biomedical matter. The Science cafe will foster a friendly atmosphere in which everyone feels free to question and offer their ideas. These Cafés will be a new engagement approach with the Vietnamese public, and possibly make science to be responsible in Viet Nam. Through Science cafe, OUCRU will provide a forum for lively debate about modern science and health related issues. The first Science cafe will be organised in 2011, and will initially target students and teachers. Addressing the necessity of bioethics amongst health care workers, we plan to choose this topic for the first Café programme which would be organised at a Medical University. We expect these events to attract around 30 people, including a speaker who introduces the topic for discussion. This OUCRU PES project will be funded by a grant from The Wellcome Trust UK. |
