Background | The Oxford University Clinical Research Unit (OUCRU) is a large-scale clinical and public health research unit, with sites offices in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi in Vietnam, Jakarta in Indonesia and Kathmandu in Nepal. In Vietnam, we are hosted by the Hospital of Tropical Diseases (HTD) in Ho Chi Minh City, and the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases (NHTD) in Hanoi. OUCRU Nepal has partnerships with the Patan Academy of Health Sciences and Patan Hospital, and OUCRU Indonesia exists in partnership with the University of Indonesia. As a Wellcome Trust Africa Asia Programme, we have received considerable support from the Wellcome Trust since our establishment in 1991. OUCRU’s vision is to have local, regional and global impact on health by leading a locally driven research programme on infectious diseases in Southeast Asia. Priority is given to health issues important to the hospitals where we work, and to the countries as a whole where we operate: Vietnam, Indonesia and Nepal. Job summary | The post-holder will be part of the multidisciplinary team and will be involved mainly into 2 clinical studies focusing on Antimicrobial Resistance Surveillance. The first one is a Clinically-Oriented Antimicrobial Resistance Surveillance Network (ACORN) – healthcare associated infection, a large-scale multicentre study which builds on the WHO Global Antimicrobial Resistance focuses on healthcare-associated bloodstream infections and ventilator-associated pneumonia. Its main aim is to implement an efficient clinically-oriented antimicrobial resistance surveillance system, which can be incorporated as part of routine workflow in hospitals in LMICs. The second one is Evidence based QUality Improvement for Prescribing Stewardship in ICU Critical Care Asia Network (EQUIPS_ICU). The EQUIPS_ICU study aims to determine whether a quality improvement intervention to improve appropriateness of antimicrobial prescribing can be implemented in LMIC ICUs as part of an existing multinational Care Quality Registry (CQR) network to improve ICU performance and patient outcomes. The post holder will contribute to the day-to-day running and development of these two studies in Trung Vuong hospital. The work will require working with ICU doctors of Trung Vuong hospital to discuss progress and outcome of patient, collect high-quality clinical data, and enter data into electronic database, audit, report and feedback the study progress to Principal Investigators. |
Key responsibilities and tasks | – Work under the direction of OUCRU investigators to ensure the successful delivery of the research studies – Follow study protocols and relevant procedures including those for laboratory samples, data collection and data management – Collect the clinical data on the Case Report Forms (CRFs) of studies and ensure the completeness and accuracy of the data – Assist with data entry, data cleaning and data analysis – Day-to-day logistics for running clinical studies and monitoring implementation – Maintain good communication with collaborating hospital staff – Work closely with study investigators to help plan, deliver and report research activities as well as feedback to the collaborating hospital – Liaise with members of different teams and groups to ensure the studies carried out according to Good Clinical Practices – Other tasks as required |
Selection criteria | Essential – Medical doctor or Preventive medicine doctor – Experience in basic computer skills (spreadsheets, word, etc.) – Team player, organized, patient, dedicated, and disciplined. – Experience in clinical field – Intermediate English speaking and reading skills. Desirable – Experience in clinical research – Knowledge of Good Clinical Practice Guidelines – Knowledge of Antimicrobial Resistance |
Benefits | – Salary ranges: $ 1,202 – $ 1,476 gross per month – Other responsibilities and benefits are based on Viet Nam Labor Law. |
