BackgroundThe Oxford University Clinical Research Unit (OUCRU) is a large-scale clinical and public health research unit, with sites offices in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi in Vietnam, Jakarta in Indonesia and Kathmandu in Nepal. In Vietnam, we are hosted by the Hospital of Tropical Diseases (HTD) in Ho Chi Minh City, and the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases (NHTD) in Hanoi. OUCRU Nepal has partnerships with the Patan Academy of Health Sciences and Patan Hospital, and OUCRU Indonesia exists in partnership with the University of Indonesia. As a Wellcome Trust Africa Asia Programme, we have received considerable support from the Wellcome Trust since our establishment in 1991.
OUCRU’s vision is to have local, regional and global impact on health by leading a locally driven research programme on infectious diseases in Southeast Asia. Priority is given to health issues important to the hospitals where we work, and to the countries as a whole where we operate: Vietnam, Indonesia and Nepal.  All work is intended not only to benefit the patients seen daily at our host hospitals, but also to help improve patient care.
OUCRU employs approximately 320 people across Viet Nam and has an average annual budget of USD 12mil.

Job summaryThis project is a collaboration between HTD and OUCRU in Ho Chi Minh City. You will join a dynamic and supportive research group running clinical and laboratory based descriptive and interventional therapuetic trials, aiming to improve diagnosis, managment, prognosis and prevention of dengue. You will be based at the OUCRU, at the HTD, HCMC.
There will be opportunity to do part-time clinical sessions affiliated with the Hospital for Tropcial diseases should the candidate wish.
Key tasks and responsibilities *** Study execution:
–          Work under the direction of OUCRU investigators to ensure the successful delivery of the clinical trials and research studies of the unit
–          Understand and be familiar with the study protocols. Use the protocol to develop procedures and documentation to execute the studies in compliance with local (HTD), national (MoH) and international (Oxford) regulatory and ethical guidelines.
–          Help generate clinical case report forms and SOPs as needed.
–          Help to train study staff in protocol relevant procedures including those for laboratory samples, data collection and recording and patient assessment.
–          Help to establish systems for transfer, analysis and reporting of laboratory specimens. Execute these processes during the study period.
–          Work with hospital physicians at the study sites to recruit, follow-up and manage study patients.
*** Clinical care and oversight:
–          Identify potential participants on the HTD dengue wards and assist in screening and recruitment of eligible patients and completion of screening logs.
–          Approach patients to enroll in the study. Obtain informed consent to take part in research studies from participants or their families.
–          Communicate with study participants about their illnesses and their treatment. Answer questions about the trials, and help them manage their illnesses as appropriate.
–          Collect, co-ordinate and oversee the collection of clinical data and research samples from participants at study sites. This will include performing various clinical examinations and procedures, in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
–          Ensure that clinical case report forms are completed accurately, and collaborate with hospital staff wherever necessary.
–          Maintain good communication with research nurses, other study physicians and collaborating hospital staff members, to ensure participants’ well-being, compliance with study protocols and quality of clinical data.
*** Scientific contribution:
–          Assist with data entry, data cleaning and data analysis
–          Assist with presenting study progress and findings to collaborators and other audiences.
*** Partner collaboration:
–          Build rapport with study sites and act as a liaison between OUCRU-VN and HTD.
–          Cooperate the monitoring team during their visits and answer their questions regarding patients’ care  
*** Other tasks as required.
Selection criteriaEssential:
–          Medical degree with doctor’s practicing license.
–          At least 1 year experience working in a Vietnamese government hospital.
–          Competent in basic medical procedures including history and examination.
–          Clinical Research Experience and preferably a Master degree or at least level 1 subspecialty training
–          Excellent skills in communication and patient care. Able to form a good rapport with patients from all backgrounds.
–          Ability to work closely with other study staff and hospital collaborators.
–          Good attention to detail in following protocols and keeping records.
–          Interest in clinical and/or epidemiological research.
–          Willing to travel within country and abroad.
–          Excellent Vietnamese and English language skills.
–          Prior experience in clinical research
–          Experience in the management of patients.
–          Familiarity with computers, including Word and database programs
–          Understanding of academic, research or not-for-profit working environment
–          Able to work with a minimum of supervision
Benefits–          Contracted salary:  Negotiable (depending on actual experience and education).

–          Two months’ salary for annual bonus and clothes 
–          Annual leave 18 days/year for the first year, a maximum of 30 days
