The RECOVERY Trial<\/a>, initiated in the UK in early 2020, is one of the world\u2019s largest randomised controlled trials aimed at identifying effective treatments for COVID-19. The trial has since expanded its scope to other Low- and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs), with Nepal becoming one of the first sites outside of the UK. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year, OUCRU Nepal is honoured to have organised one of the first international collaborators’ meetings of the RECOVERY network, providing a platform to discuss the next steps for advancing the platform’s research agenda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event’s objectives were to review lessons learned from the trial, explore new research questions, and identify opportunities to apply the trial\u2019s findings to other infectious diseases. Participants focused on strengthening global collaborations and shaping the future direction of the RECOVERY platform, particularly in relation to diseases like influenza, pneumonia, and emerging infections in Asia and Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over three days of insightful discussions, participants reflected on the trial\u2019s key findings, identified best practices, and explored areas for improvement. A significant highlight of the meeting was the collaborative brainstorming sessions, where Regional Coordinating Centres (RCCs) from around the world shared their experiences and contributed to shaping the future direction of the platform. These discussions are expected to drive new research initiatives with a lasting impact on patient outcomes globally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event brought together high-profile experts, including Professor Peter Horby<\/a>, the principal investigator of the RECOVERY trial, and Professor Richard Haynes<\/a>, a leading researcher and statistician involved in the trial, alongside other distinguished global health professionals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
