Background | The Oxford University Clinical Research Unit (OUCRU) is a large-scale clinical and public health research unit, with sites offices in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi in Vietnam, Jakarta in Indonesia and Kathmandu in Nepal. In Vietnam, we are hosted by the Hospital of Tropical Diseases (HTD) in Ho Chi Minh City, and the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases (NHTD) in Hanoi. OUCRU Nepal closely collaborates with the National Academy of Medical Sciences in Kathmandu, and OUCRU Indonesia exists in partnership with the University of Indonesia. As a Wellcome Trust Africa Asia Programme, we have received considerable support from the Wellcome Trust since our establishment in 1991. OUCRU’s vision is to have local, regional and global impact on health by leading a locally driven research programme on infectious diseases in Southeast Asia. Priority is given to health issues important to the hospitals where we work, and to the countries as a whole where we operate: Vietnam, Indonesia and Nepal. Job summary | The Communications Officer works as part of a team to support internal and external communications for the OUCRU programme. In addition to meeting the minimum qualifications stated below, the ideal candidate for this position will be a comms professional with some experience working in the not-for-profit sector. The Communications Officer works under the immediate guidance/mentorship of the Communications Manager and with support of the Senior Comms Officer. The OUCRU audience is very diverse. It includes the scientific community in all the countries where we operate, as well as the general public, policy makers, funders and research participants. |
Key responsibilities and tasks | Manage and maintain the OUCRU website. Maintaining and updating the OUCRU website will account for 50% – 60% of the effort in this position. While all members of the comms team contribute to website content, the main responsibility and ownership of the OUCRU website as a whole rests with this position. Responsibilities include: – Content management including copywriting and editing, as well as ensuring the website is fully translated. Content updates need to be coordinated with the comms team, and other website users. – Ensure compliance with the University of Oxford standards for accessibility and privacy including GDPR. – Managing new page and section requests as required. – Analytics monitoring and reporting. – Management of relationship with technical service provider and OUCRU IT . Internal communications – Lead content development for OUCRU newsletters with support of Senior Comms Officer. – Assist with promotion of internal events, including branding, poster design, emails – Assist with coordination of cross-programme events and webinars, to ensure accessibility for all sites – Assist with content creation and maintenance of OUCRU’s internal communications platforms. Video production – Lead filming and editing of simple videos for external communication and assist with productions led by other team members. – Work with video production companies when required to produce high-quality videos, including: * Creating production briefs * Coordinating approvals with key stakeholders * Managing video production timeline and budget * Ensuring OUCRU brand compliance Digital asset management Maintaining and contributing to OUCRU’s digital asset management system. Social Media Contribute to content management and regular updates on OUCRU’s social media accounts Other responsibilities include: – Contributing to event management, including event promotion, planning and coordination, photography and reporting. – Contributing to press engagement, including assisting with press releases and updating the OUCRU press database, where required. – Reporting: contribute to comms team metrics gathering, and assist with annual and ad hoc monitoring and reporting. |
Selection criteria | Essential – Experience working as a professional communications officer – Excellent spoken and written Vietnamese and English – Excellent communication and interpersonal skills in cross-cultural settings – Experience developing content for social media and websites. – Understanding of principles of branding. – Video production and editing skills. – Highly organized – Ability to work with a high degree of autonomy, and yet be a team player – Willingness to perform other tasks requested by Communications Manager Desired – Graphic design skills, intermediate expertise on Adobe Creative products. – Experience working in communications in not-for-profit and/or health related sector – Experience supporting internal and external events – Science communication experience – Photography skills – Training skills |
Benefits | – Contracted salary: * Grade: IC3/RS3 * Salary ranges: $ 1,402 – 1,707 gross per month – Optional insurance: In-patient and out-patient medical coverage; Personal accident insurance coverage – Two months’ salary for annual bonus and clothes – Annual leave 18 days each year for the first year, a maximum of 30 days – Other responsibilities and benefits are based on Viet Nam Labour Law. |
