Dr Nguyễn Hoan Phú is a clinical researcher with expertise in malaria pathophysiology, treatment, and tuberculous meningitis.

Dr Nguyễn Hoan Phú has worked as a clinical researcher at OUCRU since January 1991. His research interests include malaria pathophysiology, malaria treatment, and tuberculous meningitis.

He graduated from the University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam in 1983, and later completed a Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, UK in 1996. He earned his doctoral degree from the Open University, UK in 2009, with a thesis on the clinical and pathophysiological aspects of severe falciparum malaria.

Dr Phú worked at the Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Ho Chi Minh City from 1983 to 2019 and served as a short-term consultant for the WHO on Vivax malaria in North Korea. One of his key achievements is the application of haemofiltration in the treatment of severe malaria, which has significantly reduced mortality and is now included in the WHO treatment guidelines.

In addition to his research, Dr Phú is currently a clinical lecturer in infectious diseases and tropical medicine at the School of Medicine, University of Health Sciences, Vietnam National University – Ho Chi Minh City.
