Multidrug-resistant extra-intestinal pathogenic E. coli (ExPEC) has emerged as the leading cause of bloodstream infections in Vietnam and many Asian countries. The ecological reservoirs, host risk factors and modes of transmission of ExPEC clones are currently understudied.
In this study, we adopt the CH-typing method to rapidly screen for significant ExPEC clones that are associated with human infections as well as healthy carriers and animals. Predominant clones are subsequently subjected to whole genome sequencing, and genomic data are combined with relevant epidemiological information to investigate the transmission cycle, AMR development and risk factors associated with coli BSIs.
