In this hospital surveillance of baumannii infections, we characterised the clinical features and risk factors associated with A. baumannii-infected patients.

We found the co-circulation of multiple clones of carbapenem-resistant A. baumannii, predominantly in the ICU but also non-ICU clinical wards.

Furthermore, we found capsule switching events occurred regularly during the circulation of A. baumannii, which may be associated with immune escape and/or transmissibility*.* Further laboratory experiments are ongoing. Colistin resistance was detected with a prevalence of 6% in carbapenem-resistant A. baumannii clones exhibiting diverse colistin resistance mechanisms.
