CTU_Ninh Thi Thanh Van

Ninh Thị Thanh Vân

Senior Research Coordinator

Van has worked as a study coordinator for many different clinical trials in infectious diseases, including dengue fever, sepsis, malaria, tuberculosis, HIV and COVID-19.

Her work ensures that the study runs efficiently and safely in keeping with the guidelines of Good Clinical Practice and the regulations of the Viet Nam Ministry of Health.

Since then, she has improved her research and clinical skills to run studies at the highest international standards. She also works to train and support new coordinators who join the Clinical Trials Unit. Her experience in managing trials has also allowed her to become a monitor of other studies at OUCRU.

Clinical research has been developing rapidly in Viet Nam’s evolving medical and economic environment. Thanks to close cooperation with our collaborating institutions, a focus on capacity building and support from the Ministry of Health, Van has been a part of many local and global clinical trials executed at the highest international standards.

Local hospitals are stretched for resources and time to perform independent investigator-driven trials. Therefore, very few nurses in Viet Nam are familiar with clinical research. There is a need to overcome the language, internet access and resource barriers to training Vietnamese nurses in clinical research. Strengthening these critical members of the research community is essential to growing the research community and improving patient health in the long term.
