Background

The Oxford University Clinical Research Unit (OUCRU) is a large-scale clinical and public health research unit, with site offices in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi in Vietnam, Jakarta in Indonesia, and Kathmandu in Nepal. In Vietnam, we are hosted by the Hospital of Tropical Diseases (HTD) in Ho Chi Minh City and the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases (NHTD) in Hanoi. OUCRU Nepal closely collaborates with the National Academy of Medical Sciences in Kathmandu, and OUCRU Indonesia exists in partnership with the University of Indonesia. As a Wellcome Trust Africa Asia Programme, we have received considerable support from the Wellcome Trust since our establishment in 1991.

OUCRU’s vision is to have local, regional, and global impact on health by leading a locally driven research programme on infectious diseases in Southeast Asia. Priority is given to health issues important to the hospitals where we work and to the countries where we operate: Vietnam, Indonesia, and Nepal.

Job summary

This new post will work closely with key stakeholders within and external to the Oxford University Clinical Research Unit (OUCRU) to develop, implement, and maintain data governance policies, procedures, and standards across research and operations.

Key responsibilities and tasks

A) Programme-wide data protection

·       Work closely with IT and Data teams, research groups, clinical trials units, and operational and financial functions across Vietnam, Indonesia, and Nepal.

·       Oversee the Programme’s data governance and protection strategy and related policies and procedures.

·       Develop and deliver training and awareness activities on data protection legislation.

·       Design and implement risk mitigation actions and escalate residual risks when appropriate.

·       Act as the Data Protection Officer for the Programme.

B) Good research data practices

·       Work with research and support staff on FAIR data principles.

·       Train and educate researchers on good data governance.

·       Assess research data practices and recommend improvements.

·       Facilitate collaboration and sharing of best practice.

·       Support IT and Clinical Trials Units on data systems and repositories.

·       Maintain an inventory of datasets and metadata.

·       Recommend standardisation of data formatting.

·       Undertake mandatory training as required.

Selection criteria

Essential criteria

·       Degree-level education or equivalent experience.

·       Experience with ISO 27000 and/or data governance for large clinical studies.

·       Experience delivering data governance training.

·       Understanding of GDPR or equivalent legislation.

·       Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

·       Strong written and spoken English.

Desirable criteria

·       Experience in research laboratory data governance.

·       Experience convening diverse teams.

·       Awareness of international and local regulations.

·       Fluency in a language used in OUCRU countries.

·       Relevant professional certifications (CIPP/E, CISSP, etc.).
