| Background | The Oxford University Clinical Research Unit (OUCRU) is a large-scale clinical and public health research unit, with sites offices in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi in Vietnam, Jakarta in Indonesia and Kathmandu in Nepal. In Vietnam, we are hosted by the Hospital of Tropical Diseases (HTD) in Ho Chi Minh City, and the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases (NHTD) in Hanoi. OUCRU Nepal closely collaborates with the National Academy of Medical Sciences in Kathmandu, and OUCRU Indonesia exists in partnership with the University of Indonesia. As a Wellcome Trust Africa Asia Programme, we have received considerable support from the Wellcome Trust since our establishment in 1991. OUCRU’s vision is to have local, regional and global impact on health by leading a locally driven research programme on infectious diseases in Southeast Asia. Priority is given to health issues important to the hospitals where we work, and to the countries as a whole where we operate: Vietnam, Indonesia and Nepal. | Job summary | The TB group’s major research interests are improving TB diagnosis and treatment by carrying out clinical trials of new diagnostic tests and therapeutic approaches. We also aim to understand how genetic variations in both host and pathogen influence disease presentations, treatment responses and outcomes. We are in collaboration with three hospitals in Vietnam (the Hospital for Tropical Diseases, Pham Ngoc Thach Hospital and National Lung Hospital) and overseas institutions (Universities of Oxford, Cambridge, Washington, California, Harvard, Melbourne, Radboud, Stellenbosch) to conduct clinical and laboratory studies. The post holder will assist with the delivery of all TB projects that aim to understand pathogenesis and to find novel pathways and molecules for the diagnosis – treatment – prevention of tuberculous meningitis and pulmonary TB. The post holder will work directly with the Head of TB Group and other members in the TB group, also with other groups or departments in OUCRU, EOCRU and University of Oxford to support to manage these projects. The post holder will also organize activities, such as conference calls, meetings, audits, in the group and with local and international collaborators. Specifically, the post holder will oversee and manage a large clinical trial project – UNITE4TB – funded by the European Union. This is a 7 year project which started in June 2021 that will conduct innovative phase 2 trials in Vietnam that will develop new drugs and regimens for tuberculosis. The post-holder will work closely with a senior clinical project leader (Dr Le Hong Van) to help deliver the project. |
| Key responsibilities and tasks | The post holder will work closely with members of the TB group and other members of OUCRU to implement the above projects. This will involve – Providing detailed, real-time budgetary reports to PIs, addressing queries and audits (with assistance of finance team). – Working with Grants team to support grant application, sub-/post-award procedures and reporting. – Overseeing progress of the project portfolio and liasing with relevant deparments (procurement, lab management, data & IT, etc.) to ensure the deliverables. – Ensuring the projects are carried out in compliance with OUCRU and Oxford policies and that team members are also compliant. – Day-to-day logistics for study set up and implementation (eg ethics, hospital payments, IT systems, import/export research use only items) with close coordination with clinical research fellow, study coordinators and colleagues in OURCU CTU – Co-ordinating and arranging regular communications between TB Group team members, recording and writing up these meetings. – Coordinating/making travel arrangements, organizing site visit, workshop, seminar (with assistance of OUCRU travel team) – including arranging permissions, visas etc for foreign visitors. – Other duties which may be assigned from time to time, for example covering some study duties |
| Selection criteria | Essential – BSc or Master in Administration/ Management/Health management. – Experience in administration and project management. – Excellent attention to detail, being organized, team player, patient, dedicated, and disciplined. – Strong organization skills with the ability to prioritize workloads and work within tight deadlines. – Ability to work independently and collaboratively in an international, multi-cultural environment and with multi-disciplinary teams. – Excellent written and spoken Vietnamese. – Good English speaking and reading skills. – Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (verbal and written) Desired – Experience working in academia, research or not-for-profit working environment. – Experience with regulatory in clinical research, finance management and procurement. – Background knowledge in clinical research, health/medical sciences, or molecular biology. |
| Benefits | – Contracted salary ranges: $ 1,628 -$ 1,891 gross per month – Optional insurance: In-patient and out-patient medical coverage; Personal accident insurance coverage – Two months’ salary for annual bonus and clothes – Annual leave 18 days each year for the first year, a maximum of 30 days – Other responsibilities and benefits are based on Viet Nam Labour Law. |
