Dr Sunil Baniya

Medical Officer

Dr Sunil Baniya is a medical professional with an interest in researching demanding and relevant topics related to infectious diseases and antimicrobial resistance in the South Asian region.

He has been actively involved in ACT South Asia and ACORN study at OUCRU Nepal. While he has a broad range of research interests, he is particularly interested in non-infectious diseases, specifically cardiology and intervention-related topics.

Dr Baniya has completed his MBBS (Bachelor in Medicine and Bachelor in Surgery) from the Nepalese Army Institute of Health Sciences (NAIHS) under the Nepalese Army Scholarship Scheme. He is also an aspirant of USMLE (United States Medical Licensing Examination) with USMLE Step 1, USMLE Step 2, and Occupational English Test completed and ECFMG (Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates) certification under processing.

Prior to joining OUCRU, he worked as a Medical Officer at Military Hospital Pokhara. He was also a leading medical professional in the home isolation program and telemedicine in collaboration with MedPro International for the COVID-19 second wave, which was envisioned by Former Health Minister Honorary Gagan Thapa and the Nepal government. Dr. Baniya also worked as a Senior Medical Officer in Tanahun Sewa Hospital, Shuklagandaki-04, Dulegaunda, Tanahun.
Dr Baniya is certified by NMA WHO TeleECHO Series on the Best Practices of COVID-19 Treatment and has also completed Critical Care Training for Healthcare Workers for the Management of COVID-19.
