This study reconstructs phylogenetic structure, transmission dynamics and virulence plasmid structures of hypervirulent (+/- AMR) K. pneumoniae in Vietnam between 2010-2020.

In this study, we perform Illumina and Nanopore sequencing of a collection of hypervirulent pneumoniae identified from bloodstream infection cases and healthy individuals to reconstruct phylogenetic structure, transmission dynamics and virulence plasmid structures of hypervirulent (+/- AMR) K. pneumoniae in Vietnam between 2010-2020.

We also investigate the horizontal transfer of virulence plasmids between different hosts under the presence of naturally occurring conjugative helper plasmids and phagemids. This study will provide new insights into the ecology, transmission, and genetic structure of hypervirulent (+/- AMR) K. pneumoniae, which is responsible for the increasing prevalence of severe community-acquired bloodstream infections in Vietnam and SEA in recent years.
